Saturday 6 to Sunday 7 March 2021

A heritage diesel hauled slow rail cruise featuring Quambatook and the Silo Cinema at twilight.

We wish to welcome you aboard our first weekend slow rail cruise for 2021 as we journey to Quambatook (population 250) for a night at the twilight Silo Cinema. Travel in beautiful heritage sleeping carriages, hauled by heritage diesel locomotives A 66 and S 306 on a COVID-Safe weekend away. Your slow rail cruise departs from Melbourne's Southern Cross Station on the morning of Saturday 7 March 2021. Book your tickets here.

All aboard at 7.40 am, as we leave Melbourne and the city environs behind, you'll be served breakfast in your private sleeping compartment as our heritage diesel locomotives work hard travelling towards Bacchus Marsh and Ballarat. Watch the changing landscape from your sleeping berth or one of our two lounge carriages featured on this slow rail cruise as we travel to north to Quambatook passing through Maryborough, Korong Vale, Boort and finally arriving at Quambatook. Along the way, you'll have time to explore Boort at your own pace, or maybe sample a cold beverage from Boort's Railway Hotel.

Upon arrival in Quambatook, freshen up ready for a night of excitement - Dinner and a show! Bring your own folding chair, for tonight's film is shown outdoors - projected onto the side of the town grain silo! As the sun sets in the West, all eyes will be glued to the silo, for the Australian movie RAMS.

RAMS - In remote Western Australia, two estranged brothers, Colin (Sam Neill) and Les (Michael Caton), are at war. Raising separate flocks of sheep descended from their family's prized bloodline, the two men work side by side yet are worlds apart. When Les's prize ram is diagnosed with a rare and lethal illness, authorities order a purge of every sheep in the valley. While Colin attempts to stealthily outwit the powers that be, Les opts for angry defiance. But can the warring brothers set aside their differences and have a chance to reunite their family, save their herd, and bring their community back together?

After you night under the stars, relax in our two on-train lounge carriages, Club Victoria or BK708 before retiring for the night to your private and comfortable sleeping compartment.

On Sunday morning, enjoy breakfast as we commence our slow return to Melbourne. Along the way, we have requested a two hour stop over to allow ample time for everyone to explore parts of Inglewood at their own pace. (Our Inglewood stop is dependant on other grain train operations, and may be shortened or cancelled on the day at the request of the train controller). After Inglewood, we pause briefly at Maryborough and Ballarat before travelling via North Shore (for Geelong passengers). Your slow rail cruise ends when we reach Southern Cross Station in The heart of Melbourne, and you'lol leave the train refreshed, with memories of an amazing weekend in the country and some new found friendships.

As usual on all 707 Operations sleeping carriage rail cruises, John and Darren will be your tour organisers and on-train hosts.

We also have the option of one-way travel from Melbourne to Maryborough on Saturday 6th of March or Maryborough to Melbourne on Sunday 7th March, which include meals.
