Ballarat-Dunolly and the Ballarat Beer Festival

Join 707 Operations on our first mainline heritage train for 2020 on board a heritage diesel hauled train travelling to Ballarat and Dunolly in conjunction with the annual Ballarat Beer Festival. Our train will travel from Melbourne's Southern Cross Station to Ballarat (for the Ballarat Beer Festival) or onwards to Dunolly on Saturday 15 February. Book your tickets here.

Ballarat is home to one of the biggest days of the Australian Beer Calendar - The annual Ballarat Beer Festival on Saturday 15 February 2020. The Festival showcases over 150 craft beers, ciders and rare brews from Australian and International brewers - tickets for the Festival must be purchased separatley from the Ballarat Beer Festival.

For those who don't wish visit the Ballarat Beer Festival and the craft beer scene or spend the day exploring Ballarat, stay on the train as we head further North for an afternoon trip to Dunolly where we will have a 2 hour stop to explore the historic town and enjoy a country lunch at one of the many local cafe's and pubs.

Our standard class carriages will feature open saloon and compartment style seating areas in carriages which date from the 1950's. Our cafe carriage and licenced lounge carraiges will be attached and available for all passengers throughout the journey serving a wide range of beer, wines and spirits along with hot and cold snack foods, confectionary, tea and coffee.

Private Compartment and Open Saloon Seats

Departing Melbourne's Southern Cross Station at 8.02 am the train will arrive into Wendouree at 11.28 am (from Wendouree it's a short stroll the festival at the Botanical Gardens). Or stay on the train as we head north the historic town of Dunolly for the afternoon. Departing Ballarat at 11.45 am, we will pick up passengers as Creswick (12.05 pm), Clunes (12.20 pm), Talbot (12.35 pm) and Maryborough (12.50pm) before arriving into Dunolly at 1.20 pm allowing you just under 2 hours to explore this charming country town.

The return journey will depart from Dunolly 3.10 pm with stops at Maryborough, Talbot, Clunes, Creswick and Ballarat at 4.55 pm. After a 5.25 pm departure from Wendouree we will arrive back to Melbourne's Southern Cross Station at 8.50 pm.

The train will also call at North Shore for Geelong based guests who wish to join the train. Outbound, the train will pick up passengers from North Shore at 9.12 am. On the return we will drop off passengers at North Shore at 7.43 pm.
